Route of the Faces in Cuenca

Death Route of Faces

The Route of the Faces is located on the shores of the Buendía Reservoir, in a place known as La Peninsula (Cuenca) in which pine forests and sandstone stones abound. In recent times it has become especially popular with walkers thanks to the huge 18 sculptures and bas-reliefs found here.

The sculptures of the Route of the Faces break the line marked by museums to extol the relationship between art and nature based on spiritual reflection, since they present a certain mystical character. Some of the most impressive sculptures that can be seen during the route are 'La Monja', 'El Beethoven de Buendía', 'El Chamán', 'La Dama del Pantano' or 'La Calavera'. However, there are many more to contemplate along the way. Doing the complete tour will take us about an hour walking.

The Cuenca town of Buendía has many attractions for lovers of gastronomy, culture and nature. Buendía has a medieval essence that is reflected in its wall. The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción leads the architectural complex of the Plaza Mayor. This temple remains closed except for a liturgical act, so to visit it it is necessary to make a reservation at the tourist office. Admission is free. On the other hand, another focus of interest is the remains of the Castle of Buendía and the Museum of La Botica.
