Fuerteventura is one of the most beautiful and special islands in the Canary Islands because of its arid and volcanic landscape. More than 150 kilometers of beaches to enjoy the sea breeze and the sun, each one with a special charm. It is not surprising, therefore, that UNESCO declared the entire island a Biosphere Reserve in 2009. Here are 5 beaches in Fuerteventura that you will want to know during your next vacation.

Corralejo Natural Park

Located in the northwest of Fuerteventura, the coastal strip of the Corralejo Natural Park is the perfect place to enjoy the desert beauty of the island, which has two areas that contrast harmoniously. The southern sector is volcanic in character and presents rough shapes and ocher and red colors while the northern sector, close to the great tourist center of Corralejo, is the largest dune field in the Canary Islands. A vast expanse of white sands bathed by the crystal clear waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Corralejo Natural Park has 9 km of coastline from endless beaches that seem to never end to small coves where you can shelter from the sun and enjoy a refreshing swim. Two of the most interesting to visit are Playa del Moro and Playa del Burro.

Ajuy beach

La de Ajuy is one of the beaches of Fuerteventura that presents a singular beauty due to the contrast of its black sand with the crystalline waters of the sea, which create strong waves although it is possible to bathe. In addition, it is part of a Protected Natural Area in which there are some wonderful volcanic caves with rocks 100 million years old.

This beach is located in the town that bears the same name, which is located at the mouth of the Ajuy ravine, a few kilometers from Pájara. Between dip and dip, it is worth visiting the town of Ajuy, characterized by its cute little colorful houses, its fishermen's boats and the local restaurants where you can enjoy typical Fuerteventura food.

One way to end a relaxing day on the beach of Ajuy is to contemplate a sunset by the sea, where the sky and the water come together to dye the landscape in a thousand colors.

Cofete Beach

Of the beaches of Fuerteventura, the most famous of all that still retains its virgin character is the Cofete beach, a place that impresses both for its wild nature and for its dimensions since it has more than 12 kilometers in length.

Cofete is a gift for the eyes of white sand, white waters and a lot of peace that is located in the south of Fuerteventura to the north of the Jandía peninsula. The tranquility of this beach comes from the scarce presence of houses and paved roads. In fact, getting to Cofete is not easy because the path is made of stones and dirt, but the excursion is worth it.

Cofete is a place to explore without haste. Once there, it is advisable to go to the Punta Jandía lighthouse to be surprised by the beautiful coves that are found along the way.

Costa Calma beach

To the south of the island of Fuerteventura, near the town of La Lajita, is the Costa Calma beach. It is a tourist beach with turquoise waters and white sand, a paradisiacal aspect that invites you to stroll along the shore while contemplating, on the one hand, the horizon and, on the other, the ocher-colored mountains softened by erosion.

Near the beach of Costa Calma there are several hotels and apartment buildings to stay for a few days of vacation. Also to attend one of the high-level nautical schools in the area and learn to master a water sport such as kiteboarding or windsurfing. In the south of Fuerteventura, Costa Calma is a mecca for wind water sports.

Esquinzo Beach

Among the beaches of Fuerteventura, Esquinzo is a benchmark for surfers, a wild refuge and a haven of peace. It is located in La Oliva, in the north of the island and is characterized by being away from the hustle and bustle, by the intense blue of its ocean, its golden sand and the strong waves. It is a good option to spend a day outdoors when there is strong wind, that is why it is very frequented by surfers.
