The 11 places you should not miss in Rome

Rome, "The Eternal City", is a beautiful metropolis, full of history and art in all its corners. When you arrive to Roma, it overwhelms you, there are so many things to see, so many things to do that you don't know where to start. You do not want to miss anything or at least, you arrive with the decision to visit all those places that you have seen in countless books and movies.

During my visit to Rome, the entire city captivated me, the feeling of living in other times is exciting. The journey through its streets takes you through time, from the founding of Rome, on the 11th before the calends of May, that is, on April 21, 753 BC, to modern-day Rome.

Roma

To be able to enjoy Rome, you need at least a week. But if, as we do most of the time, you must stick to the holidays and you can only go one weekend, it is recommended that you fly on Friday afternoon and that you allow yourself to return on Monday morning. You will need at least 2 full days to see the essentials.

Go with comfortable clothes and above all, with good shoes, and get ready to walk and walk, it is the best way to enjoy Rome. Take a map of the city, point out the places that I recommend below and travel through time:

In the Old City:

  • Colosseo (Colosseum) (Gladiator fights)
  • Roman and Palatine Forum (Birth of Rome)
  • Circo Massimo (the largest show building of all time. Capacity: 300.000 people)
  • The Church, Santa Maria in Cosmedin (Piazza Bocca della Veritá. It will remind you of a funny scene from the movie «Roman Holiday»)

 Northbound:

  • The Pantheon (temple dedicated to all the Gods of Olympus)
  • Navona Square
  • Fontana di Trevi (the famous fountain, in which you must toss a coin if you want to return to Rome)
  • Piazza Spagna (The Spanish Steps always full of people and flowers and a great shopping area for big brands)

Crossing the Fiume Tevere (the river Tiber):

  • Castell Sant 'Angello
  • Vatican City (The Sistine Chapel and the Basilica di San Pietro)
  • Trastevere (lively restaurant and drink area)

These are not all the interesting places in Rome, but if you return home having been to all of them, you will have the feeling of having made one of the best trips of your life.

In subsequent posts, we will give you information about all these places, so that you can organize the time of each visit. We will also talk about transport and other cities near Rome, which if time allows it, is worth visiting. As always,

Don't forget the camera and have fun!
