Award-winning Portuguese beaches

award-winning portugal beach

The Portuguese beaches in the area of the Atlantic Region of Madeira, have also been awarded the flags of the association of blue flag of europe this year.

The so-called Blue Flag program for marinas and beaches has been developed by the Foundation for the Environmental Education, FEE, an organization that does not make use of profit in any way. It has its beginnings in France but it has been developed throughout Europe since 1987.

The cities that currently have the most flags are Santa Cruz and Funchal, with four flags each, closely followed by Porto Santo with two, to finish with Punta Sol, Santana or Porto Moniz that have only one flag.

In addition to the beaches, two marinas that stand out among all in the Region have also been awarded, such as the Quinta do Lorde, in Caniçal or Funchal.

This program aims to promote the coexistence on the beaches of tourism development and respect for the regional, local and national environment in all coastal, lake or border areas through education, public citizenship and cleanliness. This is what each of the award-winning beaches boast about each year, with their crystal clear waters and impeccable sands as if it were a red carpet.

We already have one more incentive to enjoy the wonderful beaches of Portugal, where we will have the opportunity to discover its unique and magical corners even if they are not as famous as others.
