Cannes (FRANCE): The best places on the French Riviera

04a

Cannes is synonymous with cinema, celebrities and luxury. Many times it has been called -with justice- the French capital of the cinema, reason that has made it one of the biggest attractions of French Riviera. Cannes is located in the northern end of the Gulf of Naupole, in the heart of the Blue Coast. It is located between the cities of Saint Tropez (74 km.) y Nice (37 km.), and has a total area of 1.970 hectares. It is the third largest city in population in the Alpes-Maritimes department, behind Nice and Antibes.

One of its biggest attractions is the Promenade de la Croisette, a wonderful promenade lined by palm trees, where 7 km. from the beach are combined with a wide variety of luxury shops, restaurants and cafes. At the end of this Boulevard we will meet the Palace of Festivals, a space that hosts during the months of May, one of the largest festivals in the world, the Cannes International Film Festival.

Among its main tourist points you can visit The Suquet, the old part of the city, which offers a magnificent view of La Croisette. The Fortified Tower and St. Anne's Church, which houses the Musee de la Castre, are also recommended visits. We can discover the mysteries of the man in the iron mask by visiting the Île Sainte-Marguerite. On the outskirts of the city a walk to the Esterel MassifTo the northeast of the city, a low-lying massif with deep ravines juts out into the sea, forming endless headlands, coves, points and beaches.
