Most of them, so that we do not have loss, are in the surroundings of large cities such as Siena, Arezzo or Florence.

In the province of Siena we can start by visiting the Crevole Castle, located north of the town of Murlo, 27 kilometers south of Siena. During medieval times this fortress was one of the favorite residences of the Bishops of Siena. A little further north is the Brolio Castle, who played an important role in the history of Italy in the XNUMXth century. Since then, and until now, it belongs to the Ricasoli family.

East of Siena is the province of Arezzo, our next stop. There we can visit the ruins of Rock of Civitella, in Valdichiana, thirty kilometers south of Arezzo. An old fortress, built between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries, it is perhaps the best example of a Lombard castle in the area.

Forty kilometers north of Arezzo, in the Casentino area, we have to visit the Poppi Castle, built at the end of the XNUMXth century, although according to archaeologists there were already samples of a previous fortress. It is fascinating how well it is preserved, despite the wars that have been around it and the passage of time.

Already in the surroundings of Florence nothing better than to get closer to him Nipozzano Castle, twenty kilometers from the Florentine city. Built in 1371, it is one of the most powerful fortresses in Tuscany. North of Florence the next visit will be the Cafaggiolo Castle, one of the best Renaissance castles in Italy. Built for the Medici, today you can even spend a night in it, or at least book a romantic dinner.

Any of these castles can become a wonderful excursion through Tuscany. Being so close to each other, there are those who take advantage of a whole day, or even a weekend to visit them.
