Chatsworth House: the great country house in the English countryside

Chatsworth House England

Next to the magnificent Peak District National Park, in the county of Derbyshire, is one of the largest historic mansions in England, Chatsworth house, a large country palace in the best style of the old Roman villas or French palaces. This famous building is the residence of the Duke of Devonshire and his relatives, the Cavendish. This was established since Sir William Cavendish and the English aristocrat Bess de Hardwick settled at Chatsworth in 1549.

This rural mansion was built between 1687 and 1707, especially in the neoclassical style by the architect William talman, for the one who was the first Duke of Devonshire. Later it was transformed into a baroque palace, in the s. XVII, and was later expanded considerably between the years 1820 and 1827. Chatsworth House keeps a considerable historical heritage that includes from remarkable paintings and sculptures, to furniture, manuscripts and historical books, although its spectacular gardens stand out, showing three great periods of design landscape in England.

Today Chatsworth is a major tourist attraction, and also a significant economic powerhouse for the small town of bakewell (5 km. From the mansion), which is the point where the many excursions arrive from all over the United Kingdom and which adds a total of 300 thousand visitors each year.
