Moldova, yes, Moldova. What can you tell me about a country like this? Perhaps not even that your capital is chinau, or that for a long time it was part of the extinct Soviet Union, or that today is one of the poorest countries in Europe. And about its tourism? Well, the truth is that you can't say much to say ...
Because passing through Chisinau is not one of the dream trips, far from it. The Moldovan capital still lives under certain effects of the old communism. Many of its neighborhoods are still those ugly gray concrete buildings, so typical of the communist worker community.
There are not many places that can be cited for visit in Chisinau. Soviet architecture, despite everything, does not shine excessively. The Stefan cel Mare Monument, the Botanical Park, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Riscani Park may be some of its main attractions.
Because what Chisinau can boast of is having many parks. Maybe the best is the Valea Morilor Park, a very quiet place in the center of the city where the locals walk. Another park is Drendariu Park, or Aluneiul Park, with its monuments to the progroms.
One of the essential visits to do in Chisinau it is his Jewish Cemetery. It has a large number of tombs, some of them quite old. Although it must be visited with respect, as it is still used by the local community. That is the largest Jewish cemetery in Europe. Get closer to its synagogue, which houses old Torah scrolls.
Do not worry when sitting in a bar or restaurant, since most Moldovans speak English, especially young people. Russian is mostly spoken, and even Romanian. Although in any hotel they will understand you perfectly in English.
And to bring you a souvenir of Chisinau, what can you buy? Well, in Moldova they have very good cognac. They sell it in small jars, at a very good price. The wines are also highly appreciated, and some local crafts, especially in the historic center.
I don't think you're going to do any Chisinau trip, but, if you ever have to go to MoldovaAt least you already have some data on its capital, right?
