Piura customs

Yunza in Piura

Piura is one of the most appreciated destinations within the Peru, located in the northernmost part of the country with respect to the coast, this being practically the greatest charm that it comes to possess in the eyes of tourists. Despite this, let's not forget that there are other types of details that would be well worth appreciating in this regard, such as the customs that occur in the daily life of the Piurans, which is what we will take care of for this occasion.

Let's start by looking at the fool, the typical dance of the province of Morropón in Piura, which in turn finds a great gypsy-type influence, being therefore native to colonial times and apart mainly using the cajon and the guitar as the instruments that give it rhythm.

As for festivities, the most outstanding thing on the subject is the Descent of Kings, which is celebrated since January 6 in the district of Catacaos, where in the midst of all the color the visit of the Magi before the baby Jesus is staged.

Among other types of festivities, let's see on February 20 the Yunces party in the cove of San Pedro, where entertaining competitions are held between the green and red sides, apart from float rides and other festive events.

It is also worth mentioning the case of the locust bean, a delicious aperitif made from the fruit of the carob tree. In Piura it is also considered as a potion to extend life.
