Es Trenc beach in Mallorca

Surely next year will be a more normal year and we will be able to enjoy our summer vacations more. So we can travel to Majorca and rest on its beaches, under the summer sun.

The coves of Mallorca are great, its beaches too, there is a wide range of activities, there is the beautiful Sierra de Tramontana, caves, historical buildings and much more. But if there is a beach that takes the applause, it is the Es Trenc Beach.

Majorca

Mallorca is one of the Balearic Islands from the Mediterranean Sea and its capital is the city of Palma de Mallorca. It is a large island, 3640 square kilometers, and has about 859 thousand inhabitants.

The island is characterized by Sierra de Tramontana, which forms breathtaking cliffs to the northwest, jutting out between hidden coves, and the Sierra of Levante of more modest height. There's a lot caves with underground lakes, a fertile central plain and a beautiful bay that is where the capital city rests.

The island's climate is very Mediterranean and in winter it can snow somewhat in the heights of the mountains, but it is unlikely that it will do so lower down so the winters, in general, are mild.

Today the economy is based on tourism and construction And that is why the pandemic that has been going on for a year and a half has hit hard.

Es Trenc Beach

Es one of the most popular and well-known in Mallorca. It has fine sands and crystal clear waters but offers few recreational activities. This beach starts in Ses Covetes, a beautiful beach with transparent waters and white sands, quiet, which is right between sa Ràpita and Trenc, in the urbanization of the same name.

Ses Covetes is also a popular and well-known destination, with 250 meters of beach, with two areas, one sandy and the other rocky, called Freu. Then, after Ses Covetes, the Es Trenc Beach, an extensive 3-meter-long sandy area divided into three zones.

There is the Arenal den tem, Arenal den Tenc and Es Trenc Beach which is the part that is closest to Colonia de Sant Jordi. Each part is not delimited and they all extend in a virgin way, with their dunes.

As in any beach here, what it is about is sunbathing, bathing a little and not doing much else, because the beach offers little if you are more active. The sun here is strong and no natural shade so either you bring your umbrella or you will have to rent it.

Spending hours under the scorching sun is not something pleasant. No changing rooms or showers, just basic bathrooms. There several beach bars They sell food and play some music from time to time, but not always. The best thing is to arrive well equipped with your own: umbrella, deck chair, food and drink.

There is only one restaurant And for that reason, if you do not reserve it is difficult to find a free place. The food is good, paellas, seafood, fish, and there are also A cafe To satisfy the hunger for sweets, Flor de Sal is Trenc. For more options, you have to leave the beach and head towards Colonia San Jordi, for example.

Keep in mind that there are no hotels or other buildings here, pure nature, sea on one side, dunes on the other and the people in between. The sea is spectacular, calm and turquoise blue waters, shallow, few waves, almost a Caribbean. On the other side, the dunes, some rocks, pine trees and bushes that reach Salobral de Campos, a 1500 hectare natural wetland with a lake, salt flats and birds.

What can we do besides sunbathing and tanning? Walking is an optionIt is almost three kilometers and it is a good exercise, especially in the morning or late afternoon. On that walk you will see some of the old machine gun hideouts dating from WWII and were part of a coastal defense system. Eroded, abandoned, naked and old, in 2014 they were the object of an artistic action by the Boa Mistura collective from Madrid, who painted them white and wrote some verses from the poem "Cala Gentil", by Miquel Costa i Llobera.

If you like water activities, the truth is that there are not many, only snorkel. In other beaches there is more offer, you can ride a banana boat, jet sky or parasail but not here. Here, only snorkeling and much better if the wind does not blow from the south because it removes the water and leaves it cloudy. There is a ramp in case someone uses a wheelchair, and some lifeguard posts in the busiest parts of the beach.

Soak up the sun, soak in the water, hike, do some research on the old bunkers, snorkel and not much else. Rest, read, play something, talk ... That is what this beach in Mallorca offers. And at the end of the day, if you stay to see the sunset Well, you will have the best gift of all: colorful skies, the reflection of the sun dying in the waters, all orange, gold and dark gray ...

With these characteristics, What kind of people does it attract? Young people, between 20 and 30 years old In its great majority. If you walk away a little you can probably do nudism. But how do you get here? Well precisely from Ses Covetes, if you arrive from the north, and from a road that passes through Salobrar de Campos, the salt mine and wetland, if you arrive from the south. This path is really beautiful because you see this landscape.

Bird lovers will be in for a treat. In fact, it is worth remembering that Mallorca is a great destination for bird watching and that here is the only home in the world of black vultures. The vultures are in the mountains, but other types of birds are around here, on the way to Playa es Trenc.

So if you arrive by car there are several places to park but they are all paid, both from the south and north sides. If you arrive by public transport you will do it in bus and from the Ses Covetes side. Can you camp? No, it is forbidden. There are also no accommodations to spend the night so, again, if your idea is to stay in the area you should go to Colonia de San Jordi where there are hotels and small hotels and villas for tourist rental.

We have named several times Colonia Sant Jordi and it is that when it comes to tourist infrastructure it is more complete. Here there are water sports offers, a wooden boardwalk to stroll with shops and restaurants, tourist office, excursions and much more.

A little further is Ses Salines, cozy town with its natural park, ideal for strolling by car or bicycle. And finally, Sa Ràpita, a town that is closer to Es Trenc, where you can stay, hire excursions by the sea or go to eat.

Es trenc in summer is hell. Full of tourists, you don't even have a place to put your towel. Massified is to say the least. In summer do not go.
