Etretat (France): discover the fascinating coasts of Normandy

Etretat Normandy France

Etretat is one of the most interesting tourist spots in Normandy (North of France) that emerge from the coastal road that crosses the so-called Alabaster Coast (Côte d'Albâtre), a 130-kilometer coastline that stretches from the French towns of Le Treport to Le Havre. If there is something that gives Etretat its deserved fame, it is its magnificent landscapes, where its coasts are bordered by monumental cliffs.

The picturesque village of Etretat is located in the so-called Caux country, a natural region of Upper Normandy, facing the English Channel. Etretat grew as a modest fishing village, which today became a renowned seaside town, mainly for the beauty of its gravel beaches, but above all for its spectacular white cliffs that form arches and tunnels facing the sea.

The call cliff of Aval it houses three natural arches and a cliff. The dazzling cliff gaps or arches are known in Etretat as the gates, and there are two of them, the Porte d'Aval and the Porte d'Amont. The third and largest of all is the Manneporte, who is more retired. On the enormous cliff of Aval the panorama is dazzling. On the left you can see the massive arch of the Manneporte, opposite on the cliff of the Aiguille (needle) and on the other side is the cliff of Amont.
