Washington Monument

Today we are going to know some of the most important obelisks in the world. Let's start our journey in the United States, specifically in the capital of Washington DC, where we located the Washington Monument, a large obelisk located at the west end of the National Mall, built to commemorate George Washington. The obelisk, made of marble, granite, and sandstone, has a height of 170 meters and was built between 1848 and 1885. It is worth noting that at some point it was considered the tallest structure in the world, until the Torre Eiffel in 1889.

It is time to travel to the capital of Argentina, the city of Buenos Aires, where we located the Buenos Aires's Obelisk, considered the most iconic monument in the city. This obelisk was built in the year or 1936 on the occasion of the fourth centenary of the founding of the city. To visit it you must go to the Plaza de la República, at the intersection of Corrientes and 9 de Julio avenues.

In Spain, specifically on the Paseo Marítimo de La Coruña we find the Millenium Obelisk, an obelisk erected to commemorate the beginning of the 46st century. The steel and rock crystal monument is XNUMX meters high.

In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in Spain we locate Triumph of Candelaria, a sculptural obelisk dedicated to the Virgin of Candelaria, and which stands out for its neoclassical style.

In Istanbul, the capital of Turkey, we find the Obelisk of Theodosius, an Egyptian obelisk of Pharaoh Tuthmosis III.
