Hidden beaches in Puerto Rico

Culebra Island

Some of the best Puerto Rico beaches they are really a bit hidden. The best known and tourist attractions are easily recognizable and accessible from anywhere in the country. However, the ones that we detail in this list are not so. They are usually places that are not too crowded but that you must discover to get the best impression of this country.

we start by Culebra Island, a private paradise to which the locals arrive by boat or by plane to enjoy its secluded beaches. The best known of all is Playa Flamenco, but we recommend Punta Soldado and its beautiful views of the Island of Vieques. By the way, a great place to dive. Precisely in Vieques you can go to Sombe, also known as Sun Bay, a beautiful crescent-shaped beach. Very advisable is also the Boquerón Spa in Cabo Rojo, an old pirate refuge that is home to numerous white sand beaches and turquoise waters.

Also on Isla Culebra you have Culebrita Island, a small coral island that is part of this archipelago. There are six beaches on it in addition to Playa Tortuga, a nature reserve in the far north where many sea turtles live and breed. The north coast of this island is full of small lagoons to take a bath, although you have to wear slippers because it is very rocky.

Just two kilometers from San Juan de Puerto Rico is the Piñones beach, a great place to take a dip and stroll along the promenade. Other hidden places would be Green beach on Vieques, an old property of the United States Navy, or Hidden Beach in Fajardo, a beach that, as its name suggests, is away from the tourist centers. You have to walk about two kilometers through mangroves to reach it.
