This is the case of Boracay, a place very visited by tourists but who see them and want them to be able to reach their destination. But if you want to go to Boracay on vacation or get to know it and you don't know how to do it, today I want to give you a little guide so that you take it into account when you want to plan your trip.

Boracay, a heavenly place

Boracay Pier

First I want to tell you a little about Boracay in case you don't know where it is or what kind of place it is. Boracay is for the Philippines as Ibiza is for Spain. It is a small island located to the south of Manila, about 300 kilometers away and is very visited by tourists every year thanks to its beaches such as the famous Playa Blanca.

This beach is so named thanks to its spectacular white sand and its incredible crystalline waters that make it the best claim for people who love paradisiacal landscapes. It really is a dream place but only if you like to be surrounded by massage centers, restaurants, hotels of all kinds and lots of people all the time. There are also water activities that are also a good claim, the hotels offer family tourism and there are high-level hotels for the most special.

In the last three decades the island has been transforming and it has gone from being a totally dream island to being exploited for tourism, something that unfortunately can steal its charm and destroy the unspoiled nature that characterized it when it was a quiet island full of magic. Many tourists love it because although it is being exploited so much, there are still unexploited quiet areas in the form of coves. But to be able to access these places it is better that you know where you are going or have a good reference guide to accompany you and that you cannot run the risk of getting lost in unknown areas.

Also this island has a great night life, an even more powerful claim for many tourists looking to party, music and have a great time in an authentic dream place.

The port of entry to the island of Borocay is the small town of Caticlan, on the main island, where boats leave very frequently. One of the ways to get to Borocay is by air. The local airport, a short boat ride from Boracay, is located in Caticlan. The airlines that you can take are: Sout East Asian Airlines, Asian Spirit, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific.

In short, you can arrive taking into account different options:

  • From Manila. There are several daily flights from Manila Airport to Caticlan Airport or Kalibo Airport. From Caticlan airport it takes about 15 minutes to get to the jetty and then another 15 minutes by boat to reach the island of Boracay. Asian Spirit and South East Asian Airlines also have flights between Caticlan and Cebu, as well as between Caticlan and Los Angeles. Air Philippines began with daily flights between Manila and Caticlan as of December 15, 2007.

Many airlines promoting flights between Boracay fly to Kalibo, which is a minimum 90 minute bus ride, depending on traffic. It is often recommended among experienced travelers to travel to Caticlan to avoid this journey by bus, both outward and return.

Many travel agencies will not inform you of this optionHowever, it would be good if you take it into account to avoid feeling lost in the middle of nowhere, something that could generate negative feelings in the middle of a country unknown to you. The airlines that fly to Kalibo are Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific. Flights to and from Manila to Kalibo are done by jets. Flight time is only 35 minutes.

Traveling by boat may be another viable option

Get to Boracay by boat

Another option is to travel by boat, operated by MBRS and part of the port of Manila to Caticlan, but the downside is that they only take place once or twice a week, depending on the season. Likewise, Negros Navigation operates temporary trips a few miles offshore from Boracay's Playa Blanca. There are different boats on a daily basis that operate between Roxas (Mindoro) and Caticlan. The first boats leave around 6 in the morning and the last ones at 4 in the afternoon. It is necessary to be very punctual so as not to stay on the ground.

You can also use the bus

Finally, you can choose to travel by bus. Philtranco has buses that depart regularly from Cubao, Manila, passing through Caticlan. The trip lasts 12 hours so you must have a lot of patience and you know that you have all that time.

Now that you know a little more about this island and can better guide you on how to get there, perhaps from now on you will venture to organize a visit to this place to enjoy all its landscapes and everything it has to offer.
