At present the country is governed by a parliamentary monarchy whose visible head is Queen Elizabeth II, who also acts as head of state of the fifteen countries that are part of the Commonwealth of Nations.

Sometimes we confuse the United Kingdom with England, but they are not the same thing, because England is one of its nations, undoubtedly the best known. London is the British capital and its most visited city. If we are going to start a tour of the United Kingdom it should be in this city. In London we find the Parliament, the famous Big Ben, the Tower of London, museums and incredible markets such as Camden or Portobello.
There are other cities that can be interesting in England how can it be Manchester with its neo-gothic town hall, the cathedral or the John Rylands library. York is a beautiful medieval city with a historic center worth seeing. In the city of Chester you can discover the half-timbered houses, as well as its Norman cathedral or the neo-Gothic town hall. Oxford and Cambridge are two cities in the south of England and centers of study. Canterbury is a pretty medieval town with a large Gothic cathedral, as it was the seat of the church in England. Another of its cities best known for being a resting place is Bath with its Roman baths or the Gothic abbey.
Stonehenge it is a point that needs special mention. This megalithic monument is located in the south of England and has a visitor center where you can buy tickets and learn more about the origin of this monument, which apparently dates back to 3.000 years before Christ.
What to see in Scotland
Scotland is a nation that is distinguished by its beautiful landscapes. If we have to quickly talk about what to see, we will focus on the edinburgh city, with its castle and the Royal Mile. It is highly recommended to join a route through the castles of Scotland, which are not few, such as Stirling, Dunnottar or Eilean Donan. In terms of landscapes, you should not miss Nest Lake with Urquhart Castle, the Highlands area with the Glen Coe Valley and certainly the Isle of Skye.
What to see in Wales
Cardiff is the capital of Wales and in it you can visit the Victorian galleries, Queen Street and High Street, its central streets. Swansea is the second largest city and has the National Waterfront Museum that recalls the industrial past of the city. It also features the best known lighthouse in South Wales, the Mumbles Lighthouse. Wales has more than six hundred castles, so it is another of its great attractions, as it happens in Scotland. Visiting some like the Ogmore Castle is a must. For nature lovers they have great natural spaces such as the Snowdonia National Park or the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park.
What to see in Northern Ireland
In Northern Ireland we find the Giant's Causeway, formed millions of years ago with volcanic rock. The city of Belfast offers us a visit to the shipyards where the famous Titanic was built. Another thing we can do is follow the Game of Thrones route, as this series was primarily shot in Northern Ireland and has many locations that can be visited. It also has beautiful landscapes, such as those of the island of Rathlin.
