Langkawi, a very popular beach destination in Malaysia

Beach in Langkawi

Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea in northeast Malaysia, almost on the border with Thailand. Its beaches are known for their beauty and it is an established tourist destination, although not yet very popular for the Spanish. However, the British and Italians have been frequenting it for a long time, to the point that it has an international airport with direct flights from the many European capitals.

In case your curiosity has piqued you and you want to visit this paradise in Malaysia, I am going to answer some typical questions about Langkawi:

How can I get to Langkawi?

From Kuala Lumpur there are several daily flights to Langkawi. You can also fly from Penang and Singapore. Malaysia Airlines, Air Asia and Silk Air are the operators with which you can fly to the island. You can also arrive by sea. You can catch a ferry in Penan, Kuala Kedah, Kuala Perlis, and Satun. Once you arrive in Langkawi, the best way to get around the island is by taxi, although you can rent a car, motorcycle or bike to get around. The Malaysian roads are generally in very good condition.

What is the best time to travel to Langkawi?

In Malaysia, as in the rest of Southeast Asia, there are no seasons as we know them. It is a tropical climate, so temperatures are maintained throughout the year. From mid-November to mid-April is high season, as the days are sunny and not very rainy in Langkawi. From mid-April to mid-August the mornings are sunny and it usually rains for an hour in the afternoons. The rest of the year is the rainy season, but the mornings are still sunny, with rain for two hours in the afternoon.

It is very hot?

The temperature oscillates all year round between 25 and 35 degrees, with a humidity that can reach 80%.

So what clothes do I wear?

The recommended thing is light clothing, made of natural fibers. Cotton or linen is best. In these latitudes a righteous sun falls, and if you are on the beach you can burn yourself even in the shade. This is so because white sand reflects the sun's rays. So in addition to light clothing it is necessary to bring a cap or hat, dark sunglasses, sunscreen (factor 15 at least for the body and factor 30 at least for the face), and aftersun. An extra tip for women: Malaysia is a Muslim country, so it is not advisable to go topless.

In a future post I will answer some more questions about Langkawi.

    Hello,
I am going to travel to Langkawi at the end of August, I will arrive around the 20th, I would like to know (if you know) what the weather is like at that time, since I have been told that it is the rainy and monsoon season.
I don't know if it rains all day or just a few hours and then the sun comes out.

    Thank you very much.
