El the Camino de Santiago It is a route that every person must travel, at least once in their life. Enjoy its incredible landscapes, the talks held with other colleagues, the tranquility that you breathe when you walk along its paths, and, also, the simple fact of walking through clean, well-kept landscapes.

And it is that nature would look very different if it were not respected, that is, if we left the garbage thrown anywhere, instead of in the appropriate recycling containers.

History of the Camino de Santiago

Santiago's road

The Camino de Santiago is one of the most important spiritual routes in the world, and it is that in the city, Santiago de Compostela, is, according to tradition, the tomb of one of the twelve apostles of Jesus Christ, called Santiago.

It is said that he preached Christianity throughout the Iberian Peninsula. After a time, he traveled to Jerusalem, where he finally died. His disciples collected his remains that were deposited in a stone boat which, miraculously, took them to Galicia. Years later, in the XNUMXth century, a monk named Pelayo discovered his tomb in a place known as Campus Stellae, which would be renamed Compostela. In this city the first church was built, which ended up becoming an imposing cathedral.

During the next two centuries, pilgrims began to walk the trails that led from the French cities of Arles, Le Puy, Orleans and Vezelay. Shortly after, it began to travel also from Roncesvalles and Jaca. Today, anyone who wants to walk it should know that it will go through Navarre, Aragon, The Rioja, Castilla y Leon, and finally Galicia to get to Santiago. A route that can be very long but, above all, very productive, with which you can share experiences with other colleagues.

What do I have to carry in my backpack?

Regardless of the starting point you choose, it is very important that you carry a series of things that will be essential to avoid any displeasure, since it will be much more than walking, and you will get very tired even if you are very used to taking long walks. So, when you pack your backpack, you cannot leave any of these things:

  • Backpack: it has to be comfortable. In the stores where they sell clothing and products for athletes, you will find models that allow you to distribute the weight in several special pockets. It is important that, once you have it full, you weigh it, as its weight should not exceed 10% of your weight.
  • Mobile phone and charger: for emergencies
  • DNI, health and bank card. And do not forget about some cash either.
  • Jersey: the ideal is that it weighs little, and above all that it is comfortable.
  • Footwear: special to do trekking. You will find it in sports stores. Of course, you must use it a minimum of two months before to avoid discomfort.
  • Mountain pants: they are very comfortable. They will serve you to use them daily.
  • Sleeping bag: if you are going to do the Camino de Santiago in winter, do not hesitate to take it with you.
  • Vaseline: the most recommended to avoid the appearance of blisters.
  • Solar protection: it is necessary to protect the skin against the solar rays.
  • Credential: it is a document that accredits you as a pilgrim. You will need it to sleep in most hostels.

And so that we can all continue enjoying the Camino de Santiago, one of the things that cannot be missing is the collaboration. Yes, I know, it is not an object, but it is essential so that nature can continue to show us its beauty. In this sense, the Ecoembes company started in 2015 a campaign called »Collaboration path. Recycling Path»To make the pilgrims aware of the selective collection of containers, throwing the plastics, cans and bricks in the yellow containers, and the paper and cardboard in the blue containers that have been placed in the shelters of the French Way -which is the linking the French town of Saint Jean de Pied de Port with Santiago de Castilla y León and Galicia.

Camino de Santiago: the Way of Collaboration, the Way of recycling

Everyone who has done the Camino knows how fascinating it is to share stories. You can learn a lot from them, so much so that without realizing it we grow and mature as people thanks to that magnificent experience. Where it is most shared is, precisely in the shelters, which are where you can rest a little and have more relaxed talks. But it can also be used to help and take care of the planet: recycling the packaging that Ecoembes has made available to you. But not only that, but you can also take a gift kit Composed of a manual flashlight, a lanyer, and a cover to keep the accreditation and thus avoid getting wet just by recycling.

And if all this seems like a small thing to you, you can find all the information you need about the hostels in Castilla y León and Galicia on the project website, which is not bad at all, don't you think?
