National parks and nature reserves in Alajuela, Costa Rica

Today we will visit some of the most beautiful places in Alajuela which is considered one of the most important provinces in the country.

Alajuela gives us the opportunity to practice volcanic tourism visiting for example the Poas Volcano which is a 2700-meter-high lava mountain that sits within a 65-square-kilometer national park of the same name. It is worth mentioning that the surrounding landscape is considered one of the most beautiful in the entire country. We can also know the Arenal Volcano, which has a height of 1,657 meters and is considered an almost perfect cone. It is important to mention that this volcano sits inside a park with the same name, and that to reach it we must travel about 90 kilometers from the capital, San José.

Then we can go to know the national park of John Castro White that sits very close to the city of Quesada. It is important to note that around here we can practice trekking through cloud and humid forests, and appreciate impressive landscapes. It is worth noting that this park of more than 14 thousand hectares was founded as such in 1992. Of course, you should know that you have to travel with appropriate clothing because it is a fairly rainy area.

Now let's go to another national reserve that stands out for its wildlife. We refer to Caño Negro, where you can see alligators around the lagoon. It will also interest you to know that one of the most outstanding activities is ornithological tourism.
