Parnu, beach tourism in Estonia

Parnu

Although it may seem strange to many, there are those who go on beach tourism to the Baltic countries. There the sun and the temperatures in summer are not as extreme as in other parts of Europe, so perhaps you can enjoy the climate a little more. Of course, when it comes to taking a dip, the waters are much colder than those of other countries.

This is what we could say about a city like Parnu, the summer mecca for Estonians. Located 130 kilometers south of Tallin, the capital, is a tremendously lively spa town during the summer. Beaches, parks, walks, cafes, bars, terraces, hotels, apartments, spas… a great majority of Estonians escape to Parnu to escape a little from the stress of daily life.

Since the middle of the XNUMXth century, tourists have been appearing here, mainly from Scandinavian countries to enjoy the calm waters of its beaches and the Parnu Bay.

But not everything will be beach tourism in Parnu, since the city has a charming historical center to walk through, crossed by the picturesque Parnu River, which flows into the Gulf of Riga. Parnu is also a city of museums, such as the Kurgja Agricultural Museum, and of historical buildings, such as the Red tower, built in the seventeenth century, the oldest building in the city.

This Red Tower is the only vestige that remains in Parnu of its old walls. Throughout the historic center we will see different stone houses built between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries, such as those on Ruutlii street, the main one in the historic center, while the street that leads us to the beach is an open-air mosaic of Art architecture. Nouveau.

Do not forget to visit in Parnu the City Hall building, built in classical style at the end of the XNUMXth century, and the beautiful Church of Saint Elizabeth, named after the Empress of Russia. Built in the mid-XNUMXth century, it is possibly one of the most beautiful baroque churches in Estonia.

I would be grateful if you inform me if there is a left-luggage office at the Parnu bus station (Estonia) to be able to deposit suitcases. Thank you.
