Puglia, the heel of the Italian boot

Puglia

Right on the heel of that big imaginary boot that draws the geography of Italy you will find one of the most beautiful and yet least known regions of the country: Puglia. Here we will find large solitary beaches, medieval villages painted in white and traditions as old as they are surprising.

The best known destination in the region is Bari, the capital, a charming city that preserves its old medieval quarter intact. The walk along the port, one of the most important on the Adriatic, and the XNUMXth century castle that dominates it are unavoidable visits. But even more advisable is to get lost in the narrow streets of the fishing district of Barivecchia and enjoy some of the typical delicacies pugliese in their restaurants.

On the coast there are real wonders like Otranto, Gallipoli or Lecce, where are the vestiges of the Greek and Roman past of the city, especially the ruins of Ponto Adriano; but also Leuca, the meeting point between the Ionian and Adratic seas, an impressive place where the sanctuary of Finibus Terrae stands

Inland, it is worth visiting the thermal water spas of Santa Cesarea Terme and without a doubt spend at least one day walking around Alberobello, in the Itria Valley, where we find the characteristic constructions of this area, the Trulli, Unique in the world. These are old traditional houses with a circular plan built with calcareous rock, painted white and surmounted by a conical roof. One of the most famous postcards of Puglia.
