Spend Christmas in London, what a plan!

It seems incredible but we are already talking about the end of the year parties. 2017 has flown by and it's time to start organizing dinners, parties, gifts, and maybe hopefully travel. If this is your case, did you think about spend Christmas in London?

I think it has a lot of charm because in general cities have many Christmas activities and always, spending a party away from home, has a good memory assured. So let's see what can we do in London at Christmas.

Christmas in london

You know that Christmas is coming because everything begins to have decorations in red, green, gold. Especially the shop windows and in London the same thing happens as in New York, for example, where the shopping centers have the habit of throwing the house out the window… or through the shop windows!

Many major stores they decorate their displays with luxury and it is the case of John Lewis, Selfridges or Liberty, the most popular shopping centers. London doesn't have a reputation for being a cheap city and it isn't, but walking around these shops, taking some nice photos and buying something isn't going to kill us.

Lewis has seven floors, four restaurants and stores Duty Free to take advantage of. It is on Oxford Street just two steps from Oxford Circus. Nearby is Selfridges, an elegant six-story building with shops and restaurants so you can do everything in one walk. The best thing is before going to look at the calendar of activities of the city which events we can take advantage of.

For example, a cool visit is Winter Wonderland. It is assembled in Hyde Park and includes a ferris wheel, ice rink, shows and a colorful and huge Christmas market with 200 positions. Admission is free and you have fun guaranteed.

The ice rink is the largest in the UK, there are ice artists who make spectacular figures in the magic ice kingdom, an incredible circus show, games for the little ones, a German village to drink beer and eat sausage with sauerkraut, an ice bar and from the 60 meters high that the Ferris wheel has, the winter view of London is wonderful.

If you like ice skating there are other places in London to take advantage of: there is one ice rink at the Natural History Museum, another at the Tower of London and one at Somerset House. The skates are rented and you just have to bundle up. The Tower of London rink is great, it allows you to skate at an emblematic site of the city and you can do it, in general, from 11 am to 10 pm.

Somerset House is on the north bank of the Thames and is an interesting cultural center. Its ice rink opens on November 15 of this year and closes on January 14, 2018. The Natural History Museum rink opens this month, on the 26th, and closes on January 7 next. You skate with a 12-meter-high Christmas tree and nearly a hundred thousand colored lights. Precious!

Another station visit is the Southbank Center Winter Festival. There is also a Christmas market with hundreds of stalls that sell crafts and other things, food as well and of course, there are musical events. Some things are paid and some are free: neighborhood choirs, dances, classical concerts. This year it opens its doors on November 10 and closes on January 4, 2018.

Speaking of choirs and Christmas carols if you like this Christmas custom a lot you can go to Trafalgar Square and listen to Christmas carols. It's free and they sell hot drinks so they don't freeze. The Christmas carols are in December under the lights of the Christmas tree that comes from Norway every year since 1947. How's it going !? On foot or by tube you can reach another of the popular places in London: Covent Garden.

Covent Garden also has a Christmas tree, decorations in the Piazza and a colorful Christmas market that will give you a sea of beautiful photos. For something fancier than a popular market you can always go see a ballet performance at the Royal Opera House, in the same Covent Garden or the london colliseum.

London classics

Beyond Christmas events or activities in London can not miss the classics. Hot or cold, rainy or snowy, you can't leave London without doing some very, very touristy but still lovely things.

I adore the tea, the break, the tasting of something delicious, the chat. That's why I'm a fan of 5 o'clock tea. In London a great place is The Orangery, in the Kesington Palace, an elegant XNUMXth century place: tea, champagne, scones ... and if the day is nice you can even be on the terrace or stroll through the palace and its gardens.

The London Ferris Wheel, London Eye or now, Coca-Cola London Eye is another must. Go round and round on the Thames in front of Big Ben and in half an hour back you have the best views of London. And of course, later I would not miss the changing of the guard, a walk through the Greenwich park, British Museum and other important museums in the English capital.

If you like cinema there is always the Warner Bros. Studio Tour to enjoy the world of Harry Potter or the Madame Tussauds Wax MuseumIf you like to be taken there is the hop-on, hop-off tourist bus tour and if you like history then…. The whole city is there!
