The best beaches in Costa Rica

Manzanillo

Costa Rica has more than a thousand kilometers of coastline overlooking the Pacific. Beaches with palm trees and coconut trees, gulfs, small peninsulas and unforgettable coves are some of the great attractions that it encloses throughout this orchard of paradise. A tropical image difficult to match in any other corner of the world.

On the Caribbean side, this country has more than 200 kilometers of coastline, flooded with exuberant vegetation. Virgin beaches where you can enjoy both its crystal clear waters and the climate, gastronomy and deep sunsets. Shall we take a look at some of the best beaches in this country?

First Tamarindo Beach (The locals know it popularly as Playa de Tamagringo) one of the main tourist destinations of Costa Rica. Considering the popular label they give it, it is clear that it is not the most authentic corner of the country, but it is the one with the most bustle. More traditional is Black beach, near Cahuita, a beach that as its name suggests is dark black sand. The contrast with the turquoise waters make this setting one of the most spectacular in the country.

Hugging the tip of the Nicoya peninsula we have the two cities of Evil País y Santa Teresa. They are not very tourist destinations, especially since the roads that lead there are not the best. However, it is worth getting lost in this adventure to get to know one of the wildest and most indigenous corners of Costa Rica. Next to Mal País is Montezuma, a backpacker's paradise in Nicoya. If you are looking for relaxed and intimate beach tourism, this is undoubtedly the best place. Kilometers and kilometers of beaches that, on many occasions, are practically empty.

I leave my two favorite beaches in Costa Rica for last. The first one is Conchal Beach, named for the small shells that cover the sand. The other is Manzanillo, a Caribbean beach just twenty kilometers from Montezuma. At his side you can experience the traditional and popular atmosphere of the old Puerto de Talamanca. Sitting here and hearing the waves crash is an overwhelming pleasure.
