The best of Santorini in 4 days

Thira, the capital, is perhaps the most beautiful and unique town in the Aegean. It is built and leaning over the end of a precipice that looks over the hole left by the volcano. This hole is known as Caldera, now occupied by the sea.

It has a small port below that is connected to Thira with a funicular or with hundreds of steps, if you want to go up on foot or on the back of the many donkeys that carry out this expensive work daily. Likewise, from this port the boats depart that make the highly advisable excursions to the interior islands of Nea cameni, with its warm waters, Palea Kameni and the beautiful neighbor Thirasia, which emerges as a copy of Santorini but even more authentic next to the small but surprising islet of Aspro.
The beauty of Thira may be due to the contrast of the dark rock of the place with the white houses of a unique architecture, of small houses and like out of a story, its domes, its passages (narrow and labyrinthine), its multicolored windows and doors of carved wood. Its cathedrals, both Catholic and Orthodox, and its archaeological museum stand out. Next to Thira, to the north, is Imerovigli, similar to the first but with more modern houses and with absolute respect for the traditional architecture of the island. To the south, they must visit Akrotiri and its recently unearthed lava archaeological site, which includes an entire town in perfect condition as it was at the time of the volcano's explosion. But among all the people of IA stands out, from where it is said you can enjoy the most beautiful sunset 😉, looking out from the cliff to the waters of the Aegean. It is a town that preserves all its tradition and authenticity with a quiet and peaceful atmosphere, with the most beautiful houses in intense colors on white lime, domes, palaces and stately homes.

Other notable towns are, among others, Emborio, Gulas and its square tower, Kamari, Pirgos and its stepped town, Mesaria and its stately homes.
Vozonas, Exo Gonia and Mesa Gonia, Megolojori and its little classical temple, Finikia, Monolithos and its quiet atmosphere, etc ...

To eat well in Santorini you can go to the restaurant Sphinx (Fira), Alexandria and Selini. In Peribolas the Leonidas, in Exo Gonia the Surupo, in Bizona the Kritikos, in IA the Kukumablos. In Monolithos, on the same beach behind the airport, the wonderful Tomata and the Action Follie.

For the drinks, the discobars of Energy, Every Day, Just Blue, Trip, Kyra Thira, Drum, the great Koo and Enigma, as well as Casablanca (one of the best known), 33 (Greek atmosphere) and 24 hours of the Lemoni. From IA a road goes down to a small fishing port, which few people know, ideal for eating the best fish on the island by the sea.

Street: Greektour
