Scala dei Turchi, "The staircase of the Turks." That is the name of those who for many is the most spectacular beach in Sicilia. The name is well explained when we visit it: the rocks seem to draw a staircase and in fact that was the use that the Turkish pirates who sacked the island's coasts in the XNUMXth century.

But in addition to its peculiar shape and its evocative name, what has really made this beach famous is the bright white color of its rocks, which gives it a very special, almost unreal appearance. An idyllic image of the most spectacular facet of the Mediterranean.

This pearly color that the beach exhibits is due to a type of very hard sedimentary rock on which wind and marine erosion have drawn smooth and rounded shapes over thousands of years. The "stairs" are filled with bathers every summer to enjoy the sun and the sea in an enclave of incomparable beauty. After all, there are no longer "Moors on the coast."

Scala dei Turchi is located southwest of the town of Agrigento, on the southern coast of the island. It is reached by land at the end of a well-marked dirt road or from the sea, where it appears before the eyes of the traveler as a large white pearl flanked by two long beaches.
