The Wax Museum, in Madrid

If you don't like classical museums but rather rare, original, peculiar ones, then on your next trip to Madrid do not stop visiting the Wax Museum. Who knows why the artificial figures of artists, personalities and politicians generate so much fascination.

The museum is in the Spanish capital, in a very charming area, the Paseo de Recoletos, with historical-artistic interest, so the visit is interesting wherever you look at it. To enjoy!

Museo de Cera

History tells us that the museum was born in the last years of the Franco government, back in 1972, from the hand of the then Minister of Information and Tourism, Sánchez Bella. For the task, cinematographic teams had been summoned, to be able to select the characters and reconstruct scenarios, for example, and historians for the figures already related to Spanish and international history.

The idea was to represent the most illustrious personalities of cinema, theater, show business in general, but also the science, sport and history. Thus, the efforts of sculptors, make-up artists and specialists in special effects and wardrobe, decorators and illuminators were brought together to give life to those first figures that formed and are part of the original collection.

Today there is 450 figures to know and surely there will be some that are more to your liking than others. We can divide the 450 figures into different categories: Arts and Science, Sports, Entertainment, Children, Terror and History.

In the countryside Kids there are classics like Little Red Riding Hood, ET, Johnny Deep in his character from Pirates of the Caribbean and Bart Simpson, for example. Regarding Show are Leonardo Di Caprio, Marilyn Monroe, Justin Bieber, Tom Cruise or Dwayne Johnson, among foreigners, and among Spaniards Plácido Domingo, Isabel Preysler, Sara Baras and Antonio Banderas. Add Sofía Vergara and you have a good number of famous faces.

For Sport the museum has selected Cristiano Ronaldo, Rafael Nadal, Mireia Belmonte, Marc Márquez, Javier Fernádez and the Spanish Soccer Team. For the category of Terror we have the monsters and creatures that have always given us greater or less fright: the creation of Frankenstein, Pennywise (now that It is all the rage thanks to the two movies), the dr knox and Werewolf.

One of the categories that I like the most is that of History because the faces come out of the most classic paintings to give shape and contour to those important characters in history. There is the wax figure of Carlos V, those of Catholic Monarchs, Blas de Lezo, Napoleon, Cleopatra and Felipe VI not to clash with the present.

For the category of Science and Art the chosen ones have been Miguel de Cervates, Margarita Salas, the recreation of the May 3 shootings, a literary gathering and the great Pablo Picasso. But in addition to all the wax figures, which are the heart of the museum, the institution offers much more. For example, today you can attend a Mentalism session by Pablo Raijenstein who, with Lorena Toré, mess with the enigmas behind some figures.

These "sessions" are only for 20 people and are they really special? Do you like the movie The Mentalist with Edward Norton? Well, if you want to recreate what the people of the nineteenth century felt in those strange shows this is a good opportunity. You will tour the museum in the dark, with flashlights and no public.or, for about 80 minutes. Cool! This September the dates are Friday the 13th, Saturday the 14th, Friday the 20th and Saturday the 21st, and Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th at 21:10 p.m., in general, although on Saturdays there is another function that joins at 45:XNUMX p.m.

On the other hand, the month of October also brings its own to the museum: Halloween! Between October 27 and 31 at certain times some of the most terrifying characters will come to life. The show also returns Halloween show, in the Multivision room, with a fabulous remake of Thriller. Reserve on October 27, 28 and 31. Do not forget! And even more, on the night of the 31st from 8 to 12 pm there is a 2 x 1 at the general entrance.
