Tourist destinations in Normandy

d-day-beaches

One of the destinations that I like in France is the Normandy coast. I love it, its landscapes, its history, its cities, its gastronomy. Apples, cheeses, green fields, dramatic coastlines trimmed with impressive cliffs and tragic beaches, this is Normandy.

Normandy It is northwest of Paris, on the coast of the canal that separates France from England, the same one that William the Conqueror crossed centuries ago, taking the first step for the Normans to spread throughout much of Europe. But what are the Normandy tourist attractions? Here are some:

  • Mont Saint Michel: it is one of the most classic postcards of France, the village and monastery built on the small and high island that when there is high tide is disconnected from the coast.
  • Normandy American Cemetery - It is a breathtaking site that honors all Americans who fell in the terrible D-Day, the day of the Allied landing in World War II. It is in Colleville sur Mer, on a cliff overlooking Omaha Beach.
  • Monet's Garden, in Giverny: if you like impressionist painting, you can visit one of the natural settings that inspired Monet. It's an hour by train from Paris.
  • Rouen: The medieval architecture of this city is phenomenal, it is a true Norman city and you cannot miss the medieval quarter and the Gothic-style cathedral. Here Joan of Arc was tried and burned on the fig tree.

To these visits you can add many others, but with little time these are some of the ones you cannot miss.
