It always amazes me when I read how far the Romans went. What a good times! The Roman presence is evident in many parts of Europe and as this week I have decided to focus on Germany I cannot stop talking about the roman limes.

limes romanus It is nothing more than the border of the Roman Empire and its ruins lie on German soil along 550 kilometers, from the Rhine to the Danube. Two thousand years ago, on one side was civilization, the Romans, and barbarism on the other.

All the limes ruins in Germany It stretches from the current towns of Bad Hönningen / Reinbrohl, on the Rhine coast, to Abusina, on the Danube coast. Along 550 kilometers there are from ruins of roads and fortifications, through archaeological excavations, to the very ruins of a straight border that crosses entire fields.

Of course, along 550 kilometers there are many interesting points to visit: in Osterburken there is a Roman Museum, in Aalen there is the Limes Museum, one of the museums dedicated to the Germany's Roman past bigger, there is also the Fort Saalburg (pictured), built, in Bad Homburg, and also various ditches and ramparts.

The truth is that if you like history, walk around here, through the limes in GermanIt is quite an experience. Be part of Borders of the Roman Empire, World Heritage which includes other Roman walls and borders throughout Europe.
