Amalfi

We would love to travel all over Italy discovering places as incredible as the Amalfi Coast, a coastal part of Italy located on the Gulf of Salerno, in the Campania region. It has thirteen municipalities, among which is Amalfi, Atrani, Positano or Ravello. In addition, this entire area of the coast, with its municipalities, was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO due to its natural beauty and cultural richness.

On this coast that is located near Naples it is possible to enjoy beautiful villages overlooking the sea located in mountains, so they are very picturesque. We will not tire of discovering new beaches, towns with old town centers with a unique charm and spectacular coastal landscapes. Welcome to the Amalfi Coast!

How to get to the Amalfi Coast

Positano

Normally, the people part of Naples, one of the easiest points, and it is usually reached by bus, although there is also the possibility of going by car. Going by bus has the advantage that we will not have to look for parking, but we will have to get all the information about schedules and routes at a tourist information point. If we go by car we will have much more freedom, but parking is very scarce in these small towns, and if we find it it may be a place reserved for hotels or for unloading, being very touristy, we will surely find ourselves with a fine if we leave the car where we should not.

At the tourist information point we can also collect information about the ferries, since sometimes it is the fastest and easiest way to go from one town to another. It is more than recommended for those who get dizzy easily, because the roads that access these towns are on cliffs, with incredible views but full of curves, so not everyone will enjoy the landscapes.

Discovering the Amalfi Sea Republic

Amalfi coast

This is undoubtedly the best known and most interesting municipality on the Amalfi Coast. Legend has it that it was Hercules himself who founded the city as a gift for a princess who apparently had eyes as beautiful and blue as the sea on the coast. This is one city located in a valley, between two cliffs. We will arrive at the central square of the town, next to the port, and from here we can visit the narrow streets of the town, have a typical drink, limoncello, in one of the bar terraces. We will enter Amalfi and following the main street we will reach the steps of the cathedral. Although there are main streets, more crowded, it is also a great experience to enter the smaller streets, with artisan shops and more authentic corners.

Ravello, the destination of artists

Ravello

Near Amalfi we find Ravello, which has always been considered a higher category destination, where the Italian nobility had their villas and mansions with spectacular gardens overlooking the sea. This is also destiny chosen by many artists on their vacations, like the musician Wagner, the painter Miró, the actresses Ingrid Bergman and Greta Garbo or the Virgina Woolf desk. Artists who were inspired by the beautiful landscapes, the splendid villas of the nobility or the manicured gardens that still continue to amaze the tourists who stay in Ravello today.

In this town on the coast it is possible to see great places, such as the Duomo, the main visit, from the XNUMXth century, with a spectacular bronze entrance door. Also worth seeing is Villa Rufolo with Moorish-influenced décor and a famous garden. Another essential is to have a drink on the terraces of the coolest bars while we enjoy the sea views.

Beaches and caves in Positano

Positano

Positano is another coastal destination overlooking the sea on cliffs. From the beaches of the town you can see a place where the houses seem piled up the hill. To move around Positano we must be in shape, since there are hundreds of steps to reach the highest parts. Playa Grande is the busiest, and it also has Fornillo beach, where you can sunbathe and enjoy the best views of the city.

There are also cultural visits, such as the Church of Santa María Assunta, with a black madonna from the XNUMXth century. A great experience is dining in a cave, in the Da Adolfo restaurant, which is accessed by boat and whose price is not very high, taking into account that in Positano there are the most expensive accommodations in this area of the coast. And it is also highly recommended to visit the town of Nocelle, from which there are spectacular views from the coast, although we must walk, so we must be in shape.
