Conil de la Frontera is a municipality located in the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia. It is located in the so-called Costa de la Luz, one of the most touristic areas in the south. The city was founded in Phoenician times and it is a point where archaeological remains have been found that tell us about the human presence in the area. See the Plaza de España
The Plaza de España is the most central place in the town of Conil de la Frontera. It is a square in which we can see some sculptures and also enjoy the best atmosphere. In it there are several bars and restaurants with large terraces in which to begin to taste the gastronomy of the area. There are also some gift shops to buy souvenirs and details.
Church of Santa Catalina
This church is the most important religious building that we can find in the town and it takes up a lot of space. In the typical white color of the villa, it dates from the XNUMXth century. His style is neo-gothic and neo-Mudejar, with clear Arab influences in its structure and decorative elements. But undoubtedly the most curious thing that can be seen in this great church is that its function is no longer to provide shelter for religious services, but it has become a space for sharing cultural concerns among the community. Inside it is possible to find for example an exhibition of paintings. So we can say that in addition to being a beautiful building that attracts attention, it can surprise us from the inside.
Guzman Tower
This tower was built by Guzmán el Bueno, hence its name. It is a tower dating from the Middle Ages, specifically from the XNUMXth century. It has been called an Asset of Cultural Interest and it is one of the visits that you cannot miss when you walk through Conil de la Frontera. This is the keep of the castle around which the whole town was created. We will see that the church of Santa Catalina or the Cabildo house is very close. Until almost the XNUMXth century, the square where it is located was the town's meeting point, although afterwards everything was moved to the current Plaza de España.
Gate of the Villa
As elsewhere, during the Middle Ages there was a wall surrounding this population in order to protect it. Today we can see something of it at the Puerta de la Villa. Today it is located in the center of the town and was one of the four gates that gave access to the city. It dates from the XNUMXth century, when the city was ordered to be walled in to protect it. Although today we can see an arch, before there was a door with two floors because that way you went up to the area where the guard was held.

The historic center of the town is another of its points of interest. We will not only find the mentioned buildings that speak of their ancient history, but also we can see a typical Andalusian white town. Its whitewashed houses are a spectacle for the senses, since in many you can see the patios and how they are decorated with pots and flowers. Although in summer it is a touristy and busy beach place, it has managed to preserve intact that special charm that Andalusian white villages have and that is why it is worth taking a leisurely stroll through its streets, discovering corners, old houses and small shops.

Conil de la Frontera is undoubtedly one of the most touristic spots on the Andalusian coast and has numerous beaches that hundreds of people visit for water sports. There are numerous surfing, windsurfing or kitesurfing areas, fashion sports.
