No more love locks can be put on in Venice

Rialto Bridge in Venice, where thousands of couples put their padlocks

Some time ago, thanks to a novel by Federico Moccia, it became fashionable to put padlocks on some of the most representative bridges in cities. Well, in Rome, for example, this practice was prohibited and, now, the Italian city of Venice is also trying to alleviate this practice due to the damage it causes.

Thus, tourists who walk through Venice, will be able to see posters hanging on the bridges with the phrase "Unlock your love" ("Libera tu amor"), an idea that has been created by the writer Alberto Toso Fei and that, in addition, has been supported by the Venetian City Council.

Specifically, approximately 2000 posters have been hung in the most famous bridges in Venice (such as the San Marco, the Accademia and the Rialto, among others), since some 20000 padlocks are hung on some of these bridges.

And it is that initiative has arisen to end a somewhat dangerous romantic fashion, even going so far as to have to prop up some bridges due to the risk of it falling off the weight (something that happened on the Milvio bridge in Rome, where all this fashion began).

En Spain, this fashion has also arrived and there are bridges such as Triana (the Isabel II bridge) in Seville (which is an Asset of Cultural Interest) in which approximately 200 padlocks are removed every three months, in order to prevent this famous bridge visited by millions of tourists is damaged.

Now, we will have to wait and see if people become aware and are able to show your love in another way and not with a padlock hanging from a bridge.
