One castle per Andalusian province (I)

Living in Andalusia is privileged, or at least it is in terms of landscapes and beautiful places that we have very close and close to us. And if there is something that abounds in our dear Andalusia, it is undoubtedly the castles. History brought them to us and we do everything possible to preserve them as the great constructions that they are.

In this article today, I come to show off my land, bringing one castle per Andalusian province. I could mention a lot more, but I don't want to saturate you either. These are 4 of the 8 castles that we will mention in this double article, each one from a province, which I have selected so that you can know a little more about what is in southern Spain.

Castle of Niebla, in Huelva

A few months ago I brought you an article referring to this castle, which you can read here. But if you want something more summarized about it, keep reading.

Niebla was once a powerful Taifa kingdom. This kingdom, still left us today, some formidable walls and a castle that, curiously, was built after the time of the Reconquest.

El Castillo de Niebla, or also known as Castle of the Guzmanes it is located inside a huge walled enclosure of Almohad origin. Within the walls there are also houses of Niebla's own residents. This castle has survived earthquakes, the siege experienced during the War of Independence, and of course, the inexorable passage of time. But its walls are strong, something that quite impresses the tourists who visit it every day.

Alcazar of Seville

El Alcazar of Seville It is one of the most important works in the capital of Seville. This impressive set of constructions was built between the XNUMXth and XNUMXth centuries and it would reach its greatest splendor in the times of the monarch Pedro I, who in the middle of the XNUMXth century gave the castle that Mudejar tone so characteristic that it can still be seen today.

Alfonso X, the Catholic Monarchs or Carlos V, have been just some of those who have lived within its walls and who were little by little retouching its decoration and construction with the functionalities and tastes of each era. This variety of ideas has resulted in a set of remarkable originality and enormous stylistic variety.

Without a doubt, a must-see building if you pass through Seville.

Castle of Almodóvar del Río, Córdoba

This castle of Muslim origin, was rebuilt repeatedly y restored at the beginning of the XNUMXth century. His unmistakable Gothic-Mudejar style makes it one of the most spectacular castles in Andalusia. Also due to its good state of conservation and for having the real and typical appearance of those fairytale castles that we all imagine.

By standing at the top of the town, you will be able to enjoy from its battlements the beautiful views of the Cordovan countryside, as well as strolling through its patios and corridors and being able to see its magnificent towers: the square, the round and the homage.

Castle of Sancti Petri, in San Fernando (Cádiz)

This peculiar castle is a defensive fortification located on an islet of San Fernando, Cádiz. Your visit may be unique because while you take a bath on the fine sand beach of this wonderful town you can see this great construction on the other side. Something that can only be experienced in very few selected places. The watchtower tower is older construction, since it dates from 1610, and the rest of the construction, such as the walls and the interior of the enclosure, are from the XNUMXth century.

Visiting this castle can be a unique experience, especially in summer, since there are innumerable beach routes and visits to it. In addition, the town is one of the most welcoming I have seen.

If you want to know the rest of the castles selected in this double article, read the next one with the same title. In it we will talk about 4 more castles, but this time in the provinces of Malaga, Granada, Jaén and Almería. Which will be? Do you have your favorites? I do, and then I'll let you know.
