Many of them coincide with the call parapet walk, which we will talk about next. And others, although they also take advantage of it in part, are not exactly limited to it, but reach different, but equally wonderful places in this area of Catalonia. But, without further ado, we are going to show you the routes of Begur.

the ring road

Coastal path in Lloret de Mar

A flight of stairs on the coastal path

It is a path that runs along the entire coastline of the Costa Bravaat port bou but also Blanes. It dates back to the XNUMXth century, when it was used by the Servicio Marítimo Guardia Civil to ensure that smuggling did not take place from the sea. He also had another function: to allow shipwrecked sailors to easily reach his town.

We are talking about the coastal path, but, in reality, we could refer to it in the plural, since it consists of different sections that can be traveled independently. In fact, the one that is part of the Begur routes is divided into three parts: the north, the south and the east.

The first unites the Sa Riera beach with the Racó going through the Illa Roja cove. It has a medium difficulty because it has an area of steps, although its length is only a little over a kilometer and a half. As for the southern path, it is longer, measuring two and a half kilometers, and it also has steps. Goes from Aguablava but also fonda beach going through the precious coves of Fornells. Finally, the eastern route has an extension of two kilometers and communicates Sa Tuna with the cove of Aiguafreda, with a low difficulty.

You can walk these paths separately or in their entirety. And, if you consider yourself a seasoned hiker, you can even do longer distances. He general ring road that has been prepared for this activity goes from the town of Begur Until the San Feliu de Guixols and travel through places of incomparable beauty. For example, the foothills of the Montgrí massif, San Sebastian lighthouse viewpoint in Palafrugell and beaches like those of Tamariu o Estreta cove.

You can even enter the paths that continue the coastal path inland and that reach the city of Girona. Of course, this is a circular route of about one hundred and forty kilometers, so you should do it in several days. But, if that seems too much to you, don't worry, you have other routes in Begur that are also beautiful.

GR-92 path, another of the Begur routes full of charm

GR-92 trail

The GR-92 path as it passes through the French beach

As was the case with the coastal path, this path that we are talking about now covers much more distance than the mere municipality of Begur. In fact, it is also known as Mediterranean Trail and it is a long journey that goes from Portbou to the town of Tarragona uldecona. Even from the latter it follows up Andalusia, but this area is out of our objectives.

The part of the GR-92 path that interests us is the one that connects Begur with the town of Tamariu, in the municipality of Palafrugell. It begins in the old quarter of the first, specifically in the Sot de Ferrer car park, and follows the path towards Sa Tuna. After passing this beautiful cove, it reaches the viewpoint of Sant Josep, which offers you some of the wildest views of the Costa Brava.

It's not the only one. After passing through the urbanization of La Borna, it arrives at the Begur cap viewpoint and, once past the Puigsaguardia hill, to Aiguablava. Then continue through the coves of Fornells and passes a small paved road that goes to the Ses Falugues mountains and near Mas del Llor the dirt road is resumed to finally reach the beach of Tamariu.

In total, this beautiful Begur route is eleven and a half kilometers long and you can do it in about five hours without rushing. Because you must take into account that its difficulty is medium high due to areas of promotion and descent. But, in any case, the views it offers you are wonderful.

Local footpath des Quinze

Costa Brava

The Costa Brava seen from the coastal path

You also have easier routes in Begur, although equally extensive. This is the case of this local path that concerns us now, which measures about nine and a half kilometers, but its difficulty is low. In fact, you can do it in about three hours.

Part of Mas d'En Pinc, the farmhouse where the dancer lived Carmen amaya and which has a defensive tower from the XNUMXth century. Right there you have a parking lot. You must go in the direction of viewpoint of the Creu, which you will reach after passing a small forest. Following the coast, it goes to the Ses Negres Marine Reserve and then take advantage of the coastal path to connect with the S'Antiga road. This will take us to Cap Sa Sal complex from which you have impressive views of the coast, but in which you can also see the old hotel built by the architect Josep Maria Bosch and its gardens, the work of Rubio and Tudurí.

Then, you will go down some stairs to reach the cove of Aiguafreda and then back to Mas d'En Pinc. Then, through a steep and shady, but pleasant path, you will end up in the place des Quinze. This beautiful place has some very old wash houses, probably from the Middle Ages, for which you had to pay fifteen cents. That's where its name comes from.

Camino del Agua, one of the most affordable routes in Begur

Sa Riera beach

The one that leads to Sa Riera beach is one of the easiest and most spectacular routes in Begur

Even simpler than the previous routes is this one called Camino del Agua, since it is only two and a half kilometers long. In addition, its difficulty is medium low and it will only take you about forty minutes to finish it. Its starting point is the roundabout of the cemetery, although, if you arrive by car, you can start in the car park located to the north of the Arbreda park. However, you will miss enjoying this wonderful place on foot.

In both cases, you will continue along an esplanade that makes up the first set focused on water, as it has an old cistern and a stream with a bridge. Later, you will reach another point where you have a spring, a well and a laundry. and then to Mas Mató mill, with an E-shaped tank that collects water from the La Pera spring. Sa Tuna beach

The beautiful beach of Sa Tuna

This route also stands out among the Begur routes for its simplicity, as it covers just two and a half kilometers with a medium-low difficulty. Therefore, it will only take you to cover it, approximately, forty-five minutes. As in the case of the GR-92 path, it starts at the Sot de Ferrer car park, where you can leave your vehicle if you arrive in it.

You will have to continue for a few meters along the ring road, but soon you will find on the left the sign that indicates the beginning of the old road until Sa Tuna. In the past, it was a path that linked Begur with that cove, but today it crosses the road that comes from it at various points. In any case, after going through several residential areas, you will arrive at this beautiful beach framed by typical fishermen's houses now converted into summer residences. Finally, if you continue along the northern coastal path, you will come to the no less beautiful cove of Aiguafreda.

Old Way from Fornells to Aiguablava

Aguablava

The Begur route that goes from Fornells to Aiguablava descending towards the latter beach

This route is the simplest of all the Begur routes, as it only measures one kilometer and two hundred meters and its complexity is low. Likewise, it will only take about twenty minutes to do it and, like the previous ones, it is very well signposted.

This old road begins, precisely, about twenty meters from the crossroads between Fornells and Aiguablava, on the right side. Go down through several private properties to cross again the road that connects both towns and reach Ruby Cap to take another path. For this, we will arrive at Fornells, with its marvelous coves and, from there, taking the coastal path to the south, to the no less beautiful Aiguablava sandbank. On the other hand, if at that point you head north, you will arrive at the fonda beach, as hidden as wild.

Route of the viewpoints

Castle viewpoint

The impressive view from the viewpoint of the Castle

We have left this Begur route for last as it is one of the most impressive. As its own name indicates, it runs up to diecisiete of them that offer you different perspectives of the town and its coast, but all of them spectacular. It starts at the viewpoint of the castle itself and then continue through the from the chapel of San Ramón, the Paseo de Carmen Amaya, Sa Riera or Mount Rodó.

finally ends in that of Puig des Comal in Aiguablava. All these viewpoints are in privileged natural settings and make up a route of enormous scenic beauty. We advise you not to miss this tour because it will allow you to take beautiful photographs.

In conclusion, we have shown you the best Begur routes including those that run along the coastal path and the GR-92 path. However, you can also make slightly longer journeys and take advantage of them to visit places as beautiful as Aro Beach, Lloret de Mar o Blanes. Dare to discover these places of the Costa Brava.
