La Bolonia beach is one of the most popular in Cádiz, of all Andalusia and it is even considered one of the best beaches in Spain, so we are facing a sandy area that has become a tourist spot for those who travel to Tarifa. How to get to Bolonia beach
If we have arrived in Cádiz, it will be easy for us to reach this beach which is an hour's drive away. We will go to the A-48 and later to the N-340 from Cádiz. We will go in direction Vejer de la Frontera and when passing this we will go to Zahara de los Atunes. Bolonia beach is a few kilometers from this town, but in this area the road is not very good. It is narrow and winding and you have to be careful. Anyway, when you get to the beach there is a parking lot. This archaeological site was a discovery in 1917, since it was buried, hence its great state of preservation. This Roman settlement was built on another Phoenician and gives us an idea of the great importance of the sea trade that existed in this area centuries ago. This small population not only traded with Africa and the Mediterranean, but was the promoter of the sale of tuna, an activity that has lasted for centuries, since thanks to this discovery, the Garum formula was known, the sauce with which tuna was seasoned to be marketed throughout the Roman Empire. The dunes in Bologna
In the western part of the beach we find the great dune of Bolonia, which is already part of the typical pictures in this sandy area. Tips to enjoy Bologna
This beach is really touristy, so if we want to see everything calmly, it is recommended not to go in the middle of summer. In addition, during the summer the sun in the central hours can become excessive and even to cause problems when we go up to the dunes. There are few bars and shops on this beach, so be prepared for high prices. It is always advisable to take something with us, but be very careful about leaving something because it is a protected natural area.
