One of the most beautiful areas of the Catalan geography is the Delta del Ebro Natural Park located in Tarragona. With its very long beaches, its majestic river Ebro, its charming villages and its great biodiversity, it is not surprising that in 1983 it was declared a National Park.

The Ebro Delta is the most important wetland in Spain, after Doñana Park. It currently has more than 7.000 hectares that make up the Tierras del Ebro Biosphere Reserve, a landscape unlike any we have seen in Spain.

The Ebro Delta is a highly recommended place to visit with the family. If you are planning a visit to the Ebro Delta, below we will tell you what to see and what to do in this Catalan Natural Park.

Mouth of the Ebro

A good way to start your visit to the Ebro Delta is to visit the mouth of the river. Here there are many boats that take from the final stretch of the river to the open sea about 5 kilometers away. On board one of these cruises, the captain reveals the landscape, its characteristics and the history of the delta with his explanations.

To travel the river to the mouth, you can choose between traditional or modern boats with underwater vision, an option that will delight the little ones.

To carry out this activity you have to go to Deltebre and follow the directions for "mouth".

One of the most popular activities to do in the Ebro Delta is to observe the birds that live in it. Any time of the year is appropriate but depending on the season there will be a greater or lesser variety of species. There are colonies of both resident birds (such as the flamingo or the egret) and breeding birds. In spring and autumn we can contemplate the migrations and in winter there are aquatic areas full of life.

There are two ornithological routes, one to the north and one to the south. This activity can be carried out accompanied by a professional guide from one of the companies installed in the Ebro Delta that are dedicated to it or on our own. Whatever the itinerary and the chosen mode of visit, the visitor will have the possibility of seeing fascinating birds.

The most important lagoons of the Ebro Delta at the ornithological level are protected, although the vast majority have areas adapted for sighting such as huts or observation towers. Next to the Tancada lagoon, there is MónNatura Delta de l'Ebre, a Delta interpretation center that highlights the environmental value of the area through a proposal of recreational and educational activities.

With the ground-based telescopes at the center you can see the entire lagoon, which is a powerful reason to visit it. From here you have spectacular views.

L'Encanyissada and the House of Fusta

The lagoon of l'Encanyissada is the largest in the Ebro Delta. Here is located the Casa de Fusta, a space that houses an information center and an ornithological museum where a collection of the most representative species of the delta fauna is displayed.

A visit of these characteristics always whets the appetite. At the end we can ask for a table in one of the most emblematic restaurants of the Ebro Delta that are located here, La Casa de Fusta restaurant, and taste some of the typical dishes of the area such as rice.

In addition, the Casa de Fusta has a center of tourist activities to do as a family, for example renting bicycles, rides in cars, riding in cars, riding in traditional perxa boats ...

Fangar Point

La Punta del Fangar is the peninsula that juts into the sea in the northern part of the mouth of the Ebro in front of the Bay of Fangar. Seagulls and terns usually nest here, and it is considered a refuge and feeding area for migratory aquatic bird species.

The landscape of Punta del Fangar has a desert aspect with mobile dunes that stretch along the sea for 6 kilometers. In this place, there is the Fangar lighthouse, which can be visited and is a highly recommended excursion during the visit to the Ebro Delta.
