A taste of Christmas in Warsaw

Although the star European destinations to see the Christmas lights are concentrated in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the big capitals such as London, Prague or Paris, the truth is that more and more travelers are discovering Poland, a country with a Catholic tradition that takes these holidays very seriously. Specially in warsaw, the capital, you will find the taste and magic of the most authentic Christmas.

In its markets, cozy and full of charm, the wooden houses sell Christmas decorations, local handicrafts, typical delicacies of these dates and costume jewelery where the classic pieces of Baltic amber are not lacking. In addition to the Central European mulled wine, the surprising hot beer is also drunk here. These are the three main Christmas markets in the city:

El Old Square Market (Rynek Starego Miasta), in historic Warsaw, considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the busiest; highly recommended is also the Castle Square Market (Plac Zamkowy), under the column of King Sigismund III Vasa; no less spectacular is the market that is installed at the foot of the Palace of Culture and Science (Plac Defilad), the most iconic building in the Polish capital, a monster raised during the Soviet era.

In addition to these three directions it is worth taking a walk through the Krakowskie Przedmiescie or the Nowy Swiat, medieval streets with elegant boutiques, restaurants, cafes and theaters. Take time to discover the local gastronomy  like the roasted venison urek with cranberries served with a glass of Polish vodka. Finally, do not stop enjoying the Christmas carols that the Warsaw Philharmonic bring the city to water it with the Christmas spirit.
