Visiting O Grove is enjoying another charming seaside villa. It is a place where some of its restaurants and tapas bars are a must, with an enviable gastronomy. If we are at the right time, we may even be able to enjoy their seafood festival, although this can be enjoyed all year round and even at better prices in local restaurants.

Castro of Santa Tecla

Santa Tecla

Towards the south of Pontevedra we find a very visited place, which is Mount Santa Tecla, where there is an area of well-preserved forts. They are houses of archaeological value, and in the area you can also find petroglyphs. They reveal to us how they lived many centuries ago, before the arrival of the Romans, hence their great cultural value. And that's not to mention the great views from this area, which is also very close to the border with Portugal.

Pazo de Oca

Pazo de Oca

Another of the constructions that we cannot fail to see in Pontevedra are the famous pazos, stately homes that are mostly preserved in good condition. The Pazo de Oca in La Estrada is very famous, and it is a beautiful home where we can also visit a lovely garden. It has been declared an Asset of Cultural Interest. It is a baroque-style pazo, which also has gardens inspired by the French. It is open all year round, and on Mondays the visit is free until 12.30 pm.

Soutomaior Castle

Soutomaior Castle

This beautiful castle has its origin in the Middle Ages, but it has been remodeled according to the needs of each moment, and today it is a place to visit that is already part of the tourist routes of Pontevedra. Access to castle by a drawbridge, and you can enjoy the visit through the different rooms. In addition, this castle has beautiful and well-kept gardens, in which its camellias stand out. In addition, at present it has some dramatized visits, to enjoy a different activity as a family.

Barosa River Waterfall

Barosa River

We found this natural park with waterfalls included between Pontevedra and Caldas de Reis. If you are doing the Portuguese Way to Santiago, the good news is that it passes through here, so the stop is almost mandatory. It is a nice place to go with the family, with large parking lots and a bar where you can have a drink while enjoying the views. It is a small waterfall, which has more or less water depending on the season and the rains, but in summer it becomes an ideal resting place. In addition, it has a few old mills that can be seen from the bottom.

Cape Home

Cape Home

The Cabo Home area, in the south of the province, is a place worth visiting for its incredible views of the sea. To get there it is necessary to take forest tracks. Despite this, it is a fairly visited place. There are several lighthouses, such as Punta Sobrido, or the red lighthouse of Punta Robaleira. We will start the route at the Caracola viewpoint, with a metal shell from which many people take photos. Then we can go into Cabo Home, follow its routes and discover the lighthouses and beaches such as Melide or Barra, considered one of the best nudist beaches in Galicia.

Viking Towers in Catoira

Catoira Towers

The history of Catoira is long, and it is that this point of the Arousa estuary was a place of defense to prevent the entry of invaders to Santiago de Compostela. King Alfonso V was the one who ordered the construction of a citadel where the famous West Towers, place where the famous Viking Landing festival takes place. If we are going to see this place, we can also enjoy a nice walk along the river, with wooden walkways. It is like a small hiking trail along the river, to contemplate this beautiful place.
