Tropea, the Italian jewel

Tropea is an Italian municipality of approximately 7.000 inhabitants which is regarded as the little Italian gem. It is located in the province of Vibo Valentia, in Calabria and it is a famous place especially for its beach in summer.

Tropea is the pearl of Calabria and according to the legend that revolves around this beautiful municipality, it was founded by Hercules. Its coast is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea and although it is a small town, it is still quite beautiful. If you want to know a little more about this unknown but beautiful municipality, keep reading below. We tell you the strengths of Tropea and a little more about its customs and leisure activities that we can find there.

The beautiful Tropea

Italy is known mainly for its big cities such as Rome, Venice, Florence, etc ... However, this country shaped like a "boot" has hidden places of sublime beauty. This is the case of Tropea, a small town, with its own beach and in the summer season it is filled with crowds of people who come to enjoy the good weather, the good atmosphere and its people.

A characteristic point of this town and something that makes it more beautiful is that in its Cliffs, some buildings of houses and flats rise ... And if we walk through its historic center, which is usually the most beautiful and endearing thing in a home, we will find a total of 15 different churches, XNUMXth century palaces and the typical narrow cobbled streets but charming ... A place to walk around and it seems easy to settle in an old novel or film.

So far all very nice and that sounds great, right? Well that's not all ... In Tropea there is a very special corner to visit: the Sanctuary of Santa María de la Isla, which rises on a huge rock. The place where it is located already makes the sanctuary a quite special place, but if you enter it, you will be in the typical ancient and endearing sanctuary, although well preserved on the outside ...

At the foot of it, we can touch the fine sand and take a bath in its magnificent beach. Which has several kilometers in length but not much available sand land, although it is enough for its population and for it to travel to its coasts in summer. If we start looking for information on this beach, we see that it is valued with a score of 4,5 out of 5, which already indicates the quality of life in the area during the summer season. Some of the comments that we can find on the website of TripAdvisor are the following:

  • "A beach with crystal clear and very calm waters, it is to be enjoyed having a drink in its paradores with a beautiful view" (Rubén R. Mendoza).
  • «Unforgettable days on this beach, the inns and spas are good and they are not expensive. Village atmosphere ».
  • «Beautiful beach to enjoy with the family, good sand, warm and turquoise sea, with a fairytale landscape setting… to enjoy!» (Griselda).
  • «One of the most beautiful beaches I know. Although there is no vegetation, the sand is clean and fine, the sea transparent and beautiful. From the viewpoint above you can see how absolutely transparent the water is! And it is also beautiful that the city is up on the cliff, this makes it magical » (Estani S.).

Playful activities to do

Through Tropea, in addition to getting lost in its streets and visiting each and every one of the special corners that it has, you can do guided tours by bike designed especially for tourists. And if two wheels are not your thing, there is also a boat rental service available to take a tour of the entire coastline and be able to visit it completely.

As sports-water activities you can practice snorkeling and diving. If you like the sea but these activities do not attract your attention, and you are much more daring, you can always practice skydiving or paragliding, or both.
