Two modern buildings worth seeing in France

Saint Mary of the Tourette

Despite what it may seem from the buildings to which we have referred lately, in France There are not only beautiful constructions that are worth knowing and that have been built many centuries ago. Some of the relatively recent buildings are also visited by thousands and thousands of tourists throughout each year. Today we will talk about Sainte Marie de La Tourette and Gare de Saint-Exupery.

The first of them is one of the best modern monasteries that have ever been built, and good proof of this is the name of its author, which is none other than Le Corbusier, who lived between the years 1887 and 1965.

Located near Lyon and built in 1956 for the Dominican order, it is a building in which the influence of another monastery, the Cistercian of Le thoronet, with which it has several points in common that can be clearly seen at first glance.

This large building was designed to carry out in it spiritual retirement so the arrangement of the windows plays very well with the light, creating an especially good atmosphere for meditation.

It is fully built in concrete.

As for the Saint-Exupery GareIt must be said that it is the TGV station at Lyon airport and that it is one of the masterpieces of the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava.

It is a building that is interpreted by himself Calatrava like a human eye, although others have wanted to see in it a one-eyed bird with open wings or the silhouette of a stingray fish.
