Visiting World Heritage Sites in Spain

I am one of those who prefer to travel to certain Spanish places before knowing other places abroad, which also have their charm, everything must be said. The reason is simple: in Spain we can travel from north to south or from east to west, finding incredible beauties worthy of the title that many of them already have: World Heritage. That is what our article today is about, recommendations for getaways, urban or rural, in search of these World Heritage Sites.

Today in Actualidad Viajes, we only present 5 of them, but there are many more... Will you stay with us to observe them, even for the moment, from afar?

The Alhambra, in Granada

Granada was recently chosen as the most beautiful city in Spain. I think I remember that I was competing last with another Andalusian beauty, Córdoba. I've been to both cities and I like them both, but yes, Granada narrowly beats it (according to my personal taste).

Well, within Granada we can find one of the most visited buildings in all of Andalusia and Spain, in general: The Alhambra. Whether seen from the Saint Nicholas' lookout, or really stepping on its ground, it is a building that you will leave in awe of.

It is built from the XNUMXth century, when in 889 Sawwar ben hamdun He had to take refuge in the Alcazaba and repair it due to the civil struggles that were raging at that time in the Caliphate of Cordoba, to which Granada belonged.

If for whatever reason you cannot visit it, do not worry, from this page, you will be able to take a virtual tour and learn all the in-depth history of this emblematic building.

Cordova

We mentioned it before when the Alhambra held our greatest interest, and that is that this historic city could not be left out of our list today. Its historic center was protected by UNESCO years ago and it is that just by stepping on its Roman bridge, its wonderful Mosque and drop by one of the teahouses of the Cordoba Jewish quarter, we realize its deserved appointment as a World Heritage Site.

In addition to the sites already mentioned so far, if you travel to Córdoba it is almost a must to visit the Synagogue, the San Basilio neighborhood or the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos.

Aqueduct of Segovia

I haven't seen it yet but I really want this aqueduct. This impressive construction was the work of the Romans, as much of what we still conserve in Spain and what impresses the most once you see it, according to friends who have visited it, is its length. In the photographs that are usually presented of it, its size is not really appreciated, and it is that the aqueduct has nothing more and nothing less than 15 km in length.

It is well preserved and it is the icon of representation of Segovia, without a doubt. A fact that draws a lot of attention and that I found out relatively recently is that between stone and stone there is no type of putty or mortar that unites them, but that they are placed with a system of pushes and weights that has made that centuries then we continue to preserve it. These crazy Romans!

Seville and its treasures

Seville is not far behind in the ranking of the best Andalusian treasures and here we have it on our personalized list. In it we can find buildings as emblematic as visited as the beautiful Giralda, the Cathedral, the Alcazar o the Archive of the Indies.

The Archive of the Indies was a construction for merchants and merchants who passed through the city and currently keeps inside files and documents about the new continent.

The Alcázar was a Muslim construction to watch over the Guadalquivir river. Both buildings described so far are closely linked to the river due to their roles in relation to it.

Salamanca

It is talking about Salamanca and it is talking about the old and about its university. This was promoted following the model of the University of Bologna, and planted his seed of knowledge in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, which together with the Plaza Mayor and the Cathedral (Old and New), are part of the old city protected by UNESCO. It is a unique place to visit at this time of year: autumn-winter.

We hope that these 5 World Heritage sites have succumbed to their charms and will soon receive a visit from you. As I said, I have Segovia pending. Soon very soon…
