The beaches of Almería

Almería is in the community of Andalusia and it has centuries of history and miles of beautiful coastline. As it is summer and the heat is pressing today we are going to concentrate on its offer of beaches, for anyone who steps on them, unforgettable beaches.

The coast rests in part on the Gulf of Almería, more than 35 kilometers, although there are a total of 200, some with boulevards, others with coves, all of sand and calm waters, although the towering cliffs are not lacking. There is a total of 16 beaches, varied in their quality and landscapes, services and accesses, but let's see which are the best and most recommended.

Beaches of Almería

These beaches are within the so-called municipal term, over the entire Gulf of Almería proper. It is this coast that it has 35 kilometers and of them about six are in the city itself.

There are several different beaches each other but being in the city are beaches with services, well prepared to receive visitors. We can name the beach of Las Salinas, La Fabriquilla, Almadraba de Monteleva, The popular Zapillo beach, San Telmo or Torregarcía.

Almadraba de Monteleva beach has soft and fine sand and is part of a natural park. It is almost virgin and if you like bird watching it is a great place because many species come to spend the winter here. It is 660 meters long and has an average width of 30 meters.

It is considered semi-urban and lacks a promenade so it is rather rough. The sand is white and the surf is rather calm. You can get there by metropolitan bus or by car. Zapillo beach is very popular because it is rather close to the city. It is proud to be a Blue Flag beach. It is two thousand meters long, has a beautiful promenade and dark colored sand. Its waters are calm so many people practice diving.  San Miguel of Cabo de Gata It is another highly recommended beach in Almería. It belongs to the city of the same name and also has Blue flag.

At two and a half kilometers long and 100 wide, on average, it is a marvel of white sands. I have forgotten to write down some others: the Nueva Almería beach, Retamar beachThat of The ToyoThat of costabana. Aim!

Poniente Beaches

Poniente beaches they are of dark sands and very wide and varieds. Just as there are beaches with gravel, there are beaches with sand and others where the trees get wet in the sea water. There is a good wind so tourists who want to practice come here windsurfing, kitesurfing and surfing.

Within the municipality of Arda there is a thirteen kilometer long coastline with beautiful beaches that for some time have become touristy: the El Carboncillo beach, With the Census, de la Caracola, La Sirena Loca and San Nicolás.

The Crazy Mermaid? What a name: it is a Blue Flag beach and it has also won the Q award for Tourist Quality. Very good for an urban beach of 730 meters long and about 70 meters wide on average.

Levante Beaches

If you would like to variety in coastal landscapes, something that excites you, then you should go to the beaches of Levante. The coast in this part of Almería goes to Murcia and its beauty is due to the fact that passes through the Cabo de Gata Natural Park.

There are a handful of almost virgin or virgin beaches entirely, secluded bays, wild coast with disorderly vegetation ... So much beauty has made some coastal parts well developed from the point of view of the tourist offer. Namely, there are hotels, restaurants and shops specializing in tours and beach sports. Already on the municipality of Carboneras There are a series of popular beaches, eight in total, all recommended and packed in just 17 kilometers.

Here you will find the El Corral beach, La Galera beach, Algarrobico beach (with that hotel that brought so many protests), that of the Dead or El Ancón, just to name a few. Playa de los Muertos is particularly beautiful because it is between cliffs, within the Cabo de Gata Natural Park. It is a secluded and rugged beach, with nothing of urbanization in sight. For this reason, you can only get there on foot. The reward is a closed beach, sheltered from the wind and with blue and turquoise waters depending on the time of day.

It is a hard beach for the feet so wear sandals as it is made of pebbles. No sand, neither on the beach nor on the immediate seabed. This bottom goes down very quickly and the advantage is that the water is super clear. It is 950 meters long and 80 meters wide. It is beautiful but has an umbrella because there is no vegetation.

If the coast begins with this beach it ends with that of El Algarrobico, also within the natural park and divided in turn by the mouth of the Alías river. It is a rugged beach, with very few buildings and beautiful. And famous, it must be said, because it is the one that appears in the movie Lawrence of Arabia.

Beaches of Cabo de Gata-Níjar

Nijar has many beaches, one for every taste we could say. There are tame coves like the Rajah, the Yellow, the Coal, the Half Moon, the Prince, the Girl or the Great. All of them within the municipality of San José. In any case, in San José there are beaches and not only coves and just as among the beaches of Levante there is one that appeared in the cinema, the same thing happens here: some of yours appeared in the Indiana Jones films. The Playa del Arco, the beach of San José, that of Mónsul, for example.

Other beaches are in Níjar but we are already talking about bigger beaches, not coves. There is the beautiful Rodalquilar beach, with surrounding coves, and the beaches of the towns of Agua Amarga and La Isleta del Moro.

The truth is that each municipality has its popular beaches, so the only thing to decide is what type of beach vacation we want: active or quiet? Urban or wild? On large beaches or in more intimate coves? , Long or tight between cliffs?
