What to do in Tenerife

How about knowing Tenerife today? We start the week with the largest of the seven Canary Islands, a great travel destination If you like nature, it receives visitors throughout the year.

Today, then, our article will be about what to do in Tenerife.

Tenerife

As we said Tenerife It is the largest island and one of the most populated in the Canaries. Almost a million stable inhabitants live here but millions of tourists are added every year as it is, without a doubt, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain, if not the most popular.

There are two airports, the South and the North, and the capital is the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island is the result of the merger, millions of years ago, of three islands that in turn emerged some time before from the depths of the Atlantic and took shape from volcanic activity. A) Yes, has varied landscapesFrom high mountains (the highest mountain in Spain is here, Mount Teide), to dreamy beaches, which sparkle golden in the sun.

What to see in Tenerife

First, the capital. Cities are always a good gateway. Santa Cruz It is in the extreme east of Tenerife and has one of the oldest ports on the Atlantic Ocean. From here many ships left for America and it developed very quickly in the XNUMXth century. Today it is a great city and the port no longer leaves expeditionaries or immigrants but cruises heading to the Caribbean.

If you like the wave of the Bus Homeless you can take the one that takes you around the city. It is of the up and down style and allows you to know a lot of emblematic places of the city: The Auditorium, the Parliament, the University La Laguna, the Plaza de España, the Plaza de la Candelaria ... It is a good tour if you don't go with time or you want to take a look before going back to what really interests you.

The fact that it is a city does not mean that you cannot escape to a beach. Here the best is Las Teresitas Beach, a kilometer-long golden sand beach with palm trees and calm waters and a pleasant breeze. It is considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the north of Tenerife. It is between the Anaga Mountains, just outside the capital, in the village of San Andrés. If you don't like people don't go on a weekend but if you go a few days don't miss it, especially if you don't know one Caribbean style beach.

Obviously the most popular event here is the carnival. Between February and March the city comes alive for weeks, fills with people in disguise, there are parades and dances all night long and without a doubt it becomes very fun for those who are party people.

After Santa Cruz is Masca. It is a beautiful destination that is northwest of the base of the Teno Mountains. It is a picturesque village It may be difficult to reach but it is well worth the effort and the journey. Deep ravines, lush green vegetation, a scenery that takes your breath away. Let's say it's a magical place. Walking about three hours from the village you reach the Bay of Masca and there you have another tremendous scene.

From the bay you have two options to return, or walk back, which is hard, or take a boat to Los Gigantes. There are high cliffs of different colors, the giants, warm waters, overwhelming precipices and a level town with a marina, restaurants and bars on a turquoise sea. Handsome? Of course.

The truth is that Tenerife has many routes, whether you arrive in car or rent one as if you like it Cycling. On the website itself you are offered tours that include walks through pine forests, the Camino de Santiago, mergers between sea and mountains, vineyards, honey production, one that passes through castles, another that at a certain time of the year crosses almond trees in flower, a route of museums and historical routes ...

Touring Tenerife you will come across many viewpoints: Archipenque viewpoint, Ayosa, Baracán, Chivisaya, Cruz de Hilda, El Boquerón, Cumbres del Norte viewpoint, Cruz del Carmen viewpoint.

What beaches do we recommend in Tenerife? Well there are beaches of golden sands and also black sands. There is the Playa Jardín Complex, with Playa Chica and Punta Brava, a well-known place in Puerto de la Cruz and surrounded by gardens. A quiet beach is Alabama Beach that is next to a hotel: calm waters, golden sands, next to a cliff, shaped like a shell and the best place to lose your sight when it is sunset.

Other beaches are the Playa de Ajabo, of black sands, the Alcalá Beach, that of Almáciga, the Antequera beach, hidden and difficult to access on foot, the Arenisc Beachor, El Bobo Beach, in the south of the island, the complete and helpful El Camisón Beach, the charming and southern Playa de El Médano, the El Socorro Beach, great for surfers, La Arena Beach, black and gravel, La Jaquita, La Pinta or La Nea, with a width of 25 meters and a length of 210 meters.

There are many more beaches, it all depends on which side of the island you move or if you plan to visit it. Continuing with the nature of Tenerife you cannot leave out the Teide National Park, World Heritage. It is an example of volcanism, an overwhelming landscape that has, as we said above, the highest peak in Spain with 3718 meterss. There are hundreds of cones, caves, streams, a caldera and the Tedie-Pico Viejo stratovolcano, unique in the world.

The park has 19 thousand hectares, enormous. You can get there by bus from Puerto de la Cruz or from Costa Adeje or by car. If you go by car it is better because you can travel the entire park and the best route is to go up one route and go down another. The Teide ravines form the 17 meter diameter caldera and there you see the Peak of Teide with its 3718 meters of splendor, being the third highest volcano in the world.

You can also use the cable car, with the base station at 2.356 meters of altitude and the terminal at 3.555 meters. Between one and the other there are eight minutes and it is a fascinating flight. From the terminal you can continue up a route that leaves you in the crater. It will be 40 minutes of walking and it is not easy but the views of the islands and the sea are worth it. Of course, you can not launch yourself just like that to the adventure and you must process a special permit in the national park, online and in advance. You don't pay for it but you must set a date.

In the park there is also a network of trails, self-guided routes, or with the guidance of professionals every day except for these dates: December 25 and January 1 and 6. The paths vary in route and difficulty so you must be aware of your abilities.

Another thing you can do is visit the IAC (Instituto Astrofísico de Canarias). The Volcano Life company offers guided tours in several languages. The reservation is online. Also within the park is the Botanical Garden.

If you want to add some history then you can get to know the historic centers of various villages and towns from the island: the historic center of Garachico, Buenavista del Norte, Arona, Guía de Isora, the historic center of Güimar or Icod de los Vinos, and I am falling short because there are many villages and towns whose Historic hearts are lovely. Also there are museums so as you can see, Tenerife has a bit of everything.

As you can see, nobody can get bored in Tenerife.
